What areas do you serve?

We serve all greater Victoria and surrounding areas as well as the Gulf Islands.
We have 3 locations to better serve you in Victoria, Sidney, and Nanaimo.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, all our products come with industry leading warranties, many are lifetime. We will also come to your home to handle warranty repairs for the first year absolutely free.

Do you service or repair blinds?

Yes! We service most brands and styles whether you have purchased from us or not. We are also a Hunter Douglas Authorized Service Centre – the only one on Vancouver Island! You can drop off or pick up your blinds at our Victoria location, Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. We can also repair blinds in your home.

Note: Different fees apply if you bring your window covering into our showroom or if we complete the repair in your home. Please contact us for fees and which brands we service.

What is the cost of a consultation?

Our design consultants will book a complimentary in-home consultation with you to assess your needs and style before you purchase.

Do you have products that are safe for children and pets?

Yes! Here at Ruffell and Brown, we only carry Health Canada compliant products to keep your children and pets safe.

Do you have products that can fit my budget?

Yes! We carry a variety of products designed for every budget. Our skilled design consultants can help select the right choice for you.

Do you sell pre-made products?

No. All our blinds, shades, draperies, and closet systems are customized to best fit and suit your space, creating long lasting and tailored products.

How can I make a room cooler/warmer with window treatments?

The best solution for room temperature control would be a cellular shade (honeycomb shade). These shades have honeycomb-shaped pockets or cells. This feature is designed to keep the air from escaping or entering your home to enhance a room’s overall energy efficiency, helping you with the cost of cooling or heating your home.

Do sheers provide privacy at night?

Sheers do not provide complete privacy at night, as they are made of lightweight, semi-transparent fabrics that allow light to filter through. As a result, they provide a level of privacy during the day, but at night, when the lights are on inside the house, the sheer fabric will not block the view from outside.

What is the purpose of shutters?

Shutters can be opened or closed to control the amount of light that enters a room, allowing natural light in or blocking out light and providing privacy. They can help insulate a room by blocking drafts, reducing heat loss, lowering energy costs, and making the space more comfortable. Shutters can also protect the windows and interior of the house from the sun, wind, rain, and other elements. They can add character and charm to a room and complement the house’s overall design.

What is the difference between draperies and curtains?

Curtains are more for aesthetics. Therefore, they are lighter in weight and material, while draperies are more for functional purposes such as providing insulation, privacy and light blocking and are heavier in weight and material.

What are the types of shades?

The most common types of shades are roller shades, roman shades, and cellular shades. Roller shades are made of a single fabric that can roll up or down to control the light. Roman Shades provide an attractive frame when open, while the entire fabric’s design is visible when closed. Cellular Shades, also known as honeycomb shades, are made of multiple layers of fabric pleated together to create a honeycomb-like structure. They are often used for insulation and energy efficiency and can also be used to control light and privacy.

Do you sell custom closets and/or storage solutions?

Yes! We carry Canadian manufactured custom closets and storage. These come in a variety of colours and functions, specifically designed to fit your needs. We can create any custom system for closets, mudrooms, garages, pantries, or general storage. Our materials are some of the strongest in the business and our talented design consultants can help you create the closet of your dreams!
